Welcome to 785 Beach

The goal of both 785 Beach and 785 Volley is simple: provide more opportunity for youth and adult athletes in the area to play volleyball.

How We Started

785 Beach was founded in 2023 by Skylar German. Sky played for PVA in Kansas City and graduated from Park Hill South High School. Sky was an All-American and Academic All-American while playing for Post University in Connecticut, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2017. She then moved to England to earn a master’s degree in public health while playing indoor and sand volleyball for Bournemouth University. Sky then played professional indoor volleyball in Kosovo, Germany, and Switzerland before retiring in 2022 and returning home to Manhattan to begin coaching.

Her second summer at home, Sky founded 785 Beach to introduce junior athletes to sand volleyball and provide an organized club with formal coaching. Sky loves sand volleyball (maybe more than indoor?) and wishes she had had the opportunity to play while she was growing up in Kansas. This was quickly followed by her own indoor club: 785 Volley.

Today there are over 50 athletes associated with 785 Beach and 4 indoor teams under 785 Volley, with plans to continue growing every year!

Meet the Team

  • Skylar German

    Director & Head Coach

Coach Sky is the founder & director of 785 Beach & 785 Volley. Sky currently coaches the 785 Volley 15-1 team and runs the 785 Beach sand trainings. She enjoys giving back to the sport that has given her so much! Sky played 4 contracts of professional indoor volleyball before returning home to soak up the sun and play sand volleyball. She still travels around the country to compete for fun!

  • Ruth Schinstock

    Assistant Coach

Coach Ruth is a Manhattan local that played indoor volleyball growing up but switched to AVP sand after high school. She now gets to play volleyball around the country and assists Skylar in growing the sport in MHK, because she wishes she could’ve started playing sooner! As a defensive specialist, it only hurts her feelings a little bit that all the juniors are taller than her.

  • Falastina Kair

    Admin Operations

Fala graduated from K-State in 2022 and decided to stick around Manhattan! While Fala has no volleyball experience and we had to reassure her what a “kill” is, she’s ready to have fun and have an excuse to be next to the sand all summer! You’ll see Fala helping out at tournaments, doing lots of behind-the-scenes work, and just generally being the glue that holds us together.
